So much more than what you’d expect
If you’ve never heard of Murrumbeena, it wouldn’t surprise us. Our small, quiet and friendly south-east suburb is one of the best kept secrets in Melbourne. Situated only 13km of Melbourne’s central business district, and part of the City of Glen Eira local government, Murrumbeena has carved out a peaceful haven amongst the hustle and bustle of other suburbs clamouring to be the new ‘hot spot’.
Murrumbeena has a rich history, which is brought very much to the fore in the Federation and post-war architecture. The charming fascias along the Murrumbeena Village shopping strip are testament to the respect the community has for preserving the history of this suburb. You’ll be able to spot a variety of house styles as you stroll down the quiet suburban streets. Californian bungalows dominate a landscape also dotted with Edwardian, Art Deco, Spanish Mission and post-war brick veneer homes.
Living is good in Murrumbeena. You’ll discover plenty of lush parks including Murrumbeena Park, Boyd Park and McKinnon Oval, plus a range of recreational facilities catering for everyone in the tight-knit community, good quality shopping strips and plenty of great eateries. Nearby suburbs give Murrumbeena residents access to Chadstone’s Westfield Shopping Complex, Oakleigh for Greek culture cafes and Carnegie for its abundance of cafes and restaurants.
Getting out and about is easy too. Catch the train from Murrumbeena Railway Station and be in the city in just 25 minutes. If you’re active, why not cycle into the city, or if you’d prefer, you could catch one of the several buses conveniently passing through the suburb.
